What does history say about low-carb living?

Over the last few decades, humans have gathered a lot of scientific knowledge about low-carb diets. However, many of these lessons were learned in the thousands of years preceeding modern science. Hunting and herding cultures figured out the most important takeaways to live well on a low-carb diet. Here’s three of them:

  • The best low-carb diet is moderate in protein and higher in fat. Eating low-carb and low-fat is unhealthy and hard to sustain. Aboriginal cultures learned this and adapted accordingly.
  • The body prefers mono-unsaturated and saturated fat for fuel. These include foods such as olive oil, meat, eggs, and seafood.
  • On a low-carb diet, you need more salt! When your body is adapting to a low-carb diet, your eliminates salt more efficiently. Thus, to avoid headaches, weakness, and constipation, you need to increase your level of salt intake.
